There comes a moment in every warrior’s life when the uniform hangs still, the dojo is quiet, and the body—once so capable—begins to whisper that it’s time to slow down. I’ve reached that moment.
After more than four decades as a martial artist and instructor—training in Tang Soo Do and various other arts, reaching 5th Dan, and teaching what was passed down to me by Master Yun Tak Bong in South Korea—I’ve made the difficult but necessary decision to retire from active martial arts training. Two total knee replacements have made it clear: I can no longer serve the art through physical demonstration. But I’m not done serving.

In fact, I’m just getting started in a new way.
This next chapter of my life is about writing. Not fiction. Not fantasy. But the real stuff—nonfiction drawn from the life I’ve lived: as a U.S. Army veteran, a martial artist, a certified personal trainer, a husband of many years, a father, and proud grandfather. And above all, as a follower of Jesus Christ.
Each of those roles has shaped me. Each has tested me. And each has taught me lessons I now feel deeply called to share.

There’s something sacred about passing on what you’ve learned—not as someone with all the answers, but as someone who’s walked through the fire and come out changed. That’s the spirit I’m bringing to my writing. Whether it’s about strength and injury, discipline and purpose, manhood, faith, or the quiet power of showing up every day even when your body says “no”—I want to put it all on the page.
I believe there are others like me—men and women who have given their lives to service, to family, to training, to God—and who now find themselves in a season of transition. If that’s you, I hope you’ll walk this next part of the journey with me. Not in a gi or combat boots, but through the written word, shared experience, and hard-earned wisdom.
This is not a goodbye. It’s a redirection. A different kind of training. A new way to fight—not with fists, but with faith, insight, and story.
Let’s walk this path together.
